The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) is wooing people locally for votes claiming that it will get the support of Chin nationals abroad for the forthcoming 2010 general election in Chin state.

Chin State Peace and Development Council Chairman, Brigadier General Hung Ngai and leaders of Thantlang Township Peace and Development Council visited Ziphai village in Thantlang Township and met leaders of Block Peace and Development Council, government employees and leaders of social groups in a cluster of villages on 7 September as part of their poll campaign.

“The country will usher in democracy and Chin nationals abroad will come back to cast their votes only for our party. You can cast your votes for the national parties in the next election,” said a chairman of a Block Peace and Development Council (BPDC).

“They said that as the USDP will form the government you have to cast your votes for this party alone,” said a chairman of the BPDC.

However, a government employee said, “It is a sort of cheating, which is hard to believe.”

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Hung Ngai has urged leaders of local BPDCs to cast at least 50 per cent of the vote for the USDP from each village in Thantlang Township as U Robin, a local resident will be the candidate for the State Parliament from Chin National Party (CNP) in the election.

At the same time, Dr. Hmuthang will be the candidate for the State Parliament for the USDP against the CNP’s candidate in Thantlang township constituency for the forthcoming 2010 general election.
