9 June 2010: A seventeen year old Chin woman was raped and killed on June 7 at 6 am in a field in Phulmawi village, Kalemyo, Sagaing division western Burma.
The family of the Hakha-Chin woman lives in Phulmawi village, 25 miles from Kalemyo. She used to search for pig food every morning in the field.
“She went to the field to get pig food at the usual time, but she didn’t come back in time. Her father was worried and went to the field and found her body,” said a local in Kalemyo.
The body of the woman was found on the side of the field pathway outside the village. It was taken to Kalemyo civil hospital for autopsy carried out on 9 June.
“There were knife wounds on her neck and leg. There were also similar injuries in other parts of the body,” he added.
No one has been arrested yet but most villagers in Phulmawi suspect a former soldier in Yazachu village near their village as he had raped a woman before.-
