One person was killed and 10 injured in an accident on the Indo-Myanmar border road in Falam township, Chin state western Burma on April 3.
“The accident occurred on the Indo-Myanmar border trade road 2 between Zawlte and Hmuntha village in Falam Township. The road was slippery with rain and is very narrow for vehicles to ply on. The vehicle, which met with the accident, was carrying 20 passengers at 4 pm on April 3,” said a local.
A 20 year-old youth died on the spot and others were taken to Falam civil hospital. One of the injured is in a serious condition, he added.
Most of the main roads in Chin state are not metalled and in the monsoons the roads are very dangerous for driving as it is in a hilly region. Accidents are a regular phenomenon every year.
The road from Falam viau Tiau village was opened in November 2009 after being closed for 10 years by the local authorities.-
