The Home Minister of Mizoram state, Mr. R. Lalzirliana said that Burmese people into criminal activity will be handed over to the Myanmar military junta. He said this on 27 February at a meeting of new government officials and Senior Officer Group (A) in Aizawl city, Mizoram state, India .

A Mizoram daily newspaper quoting the Home Minister said, “The reason for increasing crimes in Mizoram state is rooted in our brothers from Myanmar . We will welcome them if a guest is a good person, but if a person has any criminal case we will not arrest them here. We have to deport him to Myanmar from now on.”

Many Burmese people are staying in Mizoram state as they face economic crisis in Myanmar . Therefore, some Burmese people are into illegal acts like stealing motor cycles, selling alcohol and drugs. Local people hate them for such behavior..

Regarding this Mr. Ralhnin, Secretary of Mizoram based Chin National Council said, “It is good to punish a person who is guilty of criminal activity. It’s not good that all others suffer because of one person,” he told Khonumthung News.

A Burmese in Mizoram also said, “It is a good decision to deport those into crime to Myanmar . Otherwise we will face a chaos as we did in 2003. Why should all Burmese people suffer because of a criminal?” he asked.

Many people in Chin state and Sagaing Division – Kalemyo, in the western part of Myanmar are totally dependent on Mizoram state, India for their livelihood and business.
