A Burmese motorcycle smuggler was arrested by the police on the Indo-Myanmar border area near Aizawl, Mizoram state, northeast India last week.
He was arrested in Hualgo village with a new motorcycle a Yamaha R15, which he tried to take inside Myanmar. The smuggler was identified as Khamsiamkhum of Tidim, Chin state, according to the Evening Post newspaper.
The motorbike is owned by Abraham Vanlalsiama of Ramthar block, Aizawl and it was stolen on 6 October 2008. He filed a FIR at the police station on October 9. The Mizoram police recovered the two wheeler from Hualgo village.
The accused was arrested on 12 October evening, when he was trying to flee with the two wheeler, into Myanmar. He has been charged under the Foreigners Act and theft.
On 29 October also the Mizoram police arrested four Burmese smugglers with two motorcycles in Seiling village 15 km from Aizawl city.
Indian motorcycles are very costly in Kalemyo and Tamu Township in Sagain Division. The market price is about Kyat 30 to 40 lakhs.
Under military junta the Burmese people are suffering in every aspect of life, so they are into smuggling and drugs for survival. Mizoram jails have quite a few prisoners who are Burmese held for selling drugs and stealing.
