Mizoram Police arrested four Burmese youth for illegally ferrying two bikes from Aizwal in Mizoram to the Myanmar border, according to a report.
On October 29, the Mizoram Police arrested four people with two bikes in Seling village, 50 miles away from Aizwal, the capital of Mizoram. A policeman said that two Pulsar bikes had been stolen by the Burmese youth. They were trying to sell the bikes in Myanmar.
The Burmese youth were identified as Thangkhankap (21), Malsawmdawnga (20), and Nghinchhuankap (31) from Tawnzang and Tidim Townships of Chin State in Myanmar
According to the police, reports about stolen bikes were rampant for the last few days.
The Pulsar bikes, which are Indian products, are very much in fashion in Kalemyo in Sagian Division and people there are ready to pay high prices for these bikes. Prices of these bikes sometimes go up to Kyat 30 to 40 lakh.
These bikes were being illegally sold in Myanmar after being transported from Mizoram. The price in Rupees is about fifty thousand (Rs. 50000/-) in India .
A local in the border area said that bike smugglers used to drive Pulsar bikes upto Zokhawthar village, on the Indo-Myanmar border and they paid Kyat. 50000/- each to policemen in Myanmar. At the border river gate they pay Kyat one lakh for tax and after which they can freely drive upto Kalemyo.
