A Chin college student from Kanpalet town in Chin state was stabbed to death while attending the Three pagodas festival in Myingyan town in Magway division, central Burma yesterday.
Mang Bu Kee (19), second year zoology student of Myingyan Degree College was stabbed by someone from the back while he was standing in the crowd at the three pagodas festival in Magway division at around 8:30 am.
"It is very likely that he was mistakenly stabbed," U Hong Mang, father of Mang Bu Kee said.
Eyewitness to the incident from the nearby tea shops said that Mang Bu Kee was stabbed by someone from behind, U Hong Mang added.
The police reportedly detained 18 people and are interrogating them in Myingyan police station.
One of 18 detainees is said to have confessed that he stabbed Mang Bu Kee with a scissor, U Hong Mang said.
However, the post mortem revealed that there were several injuries in Mang Bu Kee's head and he had been stabbed with a knife not a pair of scissors.
"I suspect there was more than one person involved in the killing as the post mortem report is different from what the accused had said," U Hong Mang said.
The funeral service is likely to be conducted at around 9 am today.
