Three passengers were killed and several injured when a mini-bus plying on the Kalay –Monywa road in northwest Burma met with an accident near Kalay town on August 2.
At around 10 am on the day, a mini bus from 'Shantaungtan' bus line carrying around 50 passengers skidded on the slippery road and nose dived into a stream while it was trying to cross a small bridge, according to locals in Kalay town, Sagaing division.
"With the monsoons the road is slippery and muddy. The bus skidded off the road and fell into a stream while it was trying to cross the bridge," a local from Kalay said.
The small bridge that links Kalay and Monywa is 12 miles from Kalay town.
"Besides three who were killed in the mishap, around 21 passengers were injured," a local from Kalay added.
The injured passengers were taken back to Kalay for treatment in Kalay civil hospital.
The mini-bus driver is in custody in Kalay police station, another local from Kalay said.
