A Chin Women’s Organization (CWO) with 30 members was established on 27 September 2014 at the western block in Mindat town.

The main objectives of the organization are self-determination for women, the promotion of women’s rights and the empowerment of women where they are discriminated against.

They have selected nine members for their Central Working Committee.

“We made future plans at the meeting including funding for the organization which the working committee will follow up. We’ll also frame a constitution for the organization,” said Salai Aung Lian Thang, who attended the meeting as an advisor.

In order to strengthen the organization it has initiated house to house visits to ask for donations and to raise awareness.

The newly appointed Central Working Committee members are Mai Thang Lai (Chairman), Mai Hung Lai (Secretary) and seven other members. It is the first independent community based women’s organization in Mindat town.

The Chin Women’s Organizations Network was established on 15 September 2014 in Hakha town.
