A preliminary meeting for an upcoming Chin National Front (CNF)’s public consultation took place at a church in Matupi.

The day-long meeting on Nov.17 in Chin State's second largest city  was attended by Pu Thang Yen, in-charge of Matupi CNF’s liaison office, Pu Mang Lai, second in-charge and about 100 people from the surrounding areas including many religious leaders.

“Different tribes from Matupi like Matu, Mara, Zotung and Dai, attended the meeting,” said Pu Mang Lai.

Participants were briefed on the importance of developing civil societies and how to participate in ‘Burma’s transition to democracy process’ by James Roling. Pu Mang Lai explained the 15-point agreement that CNF has signed with the central government. He told Khonumthung that a pre-instruction for CNF’s public consultation has already be completed and that a public consultation in Chin state is in the works.

During the meeting, participants unanimously agreed to support the government-CNF peace talks. The second level of the union level peace talk between CNF’s delegations and the central government will be held in Rangoon next month.
