International Peace Day was celebrated with an appeal to end all armed conflict in Burma. The event was organized by the Chin Taung Tan Foundation (CTTF) in Paletwa Town in southern Chin state, Burma, on September 23.
“We were prepared to organize the event on September 21, but the permission was delayed by the Township administration office. So we opted for September 23,” said a CTTF member.
Around 50 local departmental officials, leaders of local social groups, members of Chin Christian Churches, and Buddhists attended. A service was conducted with prayers for peace in Burma's conflict ridden ethnic regions.
“We distributed T-shirts with peace signs and CDs. The participants were in their traditional dress,” said a local from Paletwa Town.
U Mang Lay, the Director of CTTF spoke of the foundation's background and objectives, as well as the history of International Peace Day, according to a resident.
Father Pual Thun Khaing of the Roman Catholic Church also addressed the gathering, stating that the country’s development has to be founded on peace and stability. He added, “We need to forgive each other."
The ceremony concluded with prayers led by Thawng Hoih, a Chin Christian Church of Paletwa.
