In a joint raid, CADS and Excise and Narcotic Enforcement staff seized two canes (40 grams) of heroin worth Rs. 70,000 from a Chin national in Mizoram state, northeast India on 27 August.
The heroin peddler was identified as Van Uk Cung (20) from Mualkai village, Falam Township, Chin state, Burma. The peddler was arrested with heroin in Dawrpui Vengthar block of Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram.
He was charged under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act (ND & PS), 1995.
Similarly, two top peddlers from Bawkkan village of Kalemyo were arrested with 60 grams of heroin by Mizoram authorities on 28 July.
Local people said that opium plantations are on the rise in Teddim, Tonzang and Cikha, Sub-township of Teddim Township, northern Chin state with local Burmese authorities permitting it and helping transport it to Mizoram. – Khonumthung News
