“First the central pillars of the bridge collapsed because of flood waters. Most paddy fields of local people along with those near the river were also damaged,” said a university student from Pindaw Oo village.

The Pindaw Oo Bridge was built in 2010 with Kyat hundred thousand lakhs during the State Peace and Development Council era and a hundred thousand lakhs from local people.

“Domestic animals were also killed by the floods in the region with the fields inundated” said a farmer.

A suspension bridge is being prepared for communicating between villages and the local people are collecting 100 kyats per household or a cup of rice from surrounding villagers.

“We plan to approach the government authority to build a suspension bridge, because it is impossible to rebuild the original” said a village elder from Pindaw Oo village.

The damaged bridge was used for communication between Letpanchaung, Pindaw Oo, Minhlah and Aungzau villages.

Bridges and houses of Chin state and Sagaing division were damaged by the floods following heavy downpour. But the authorities have not helped in the region. – Khonumthung News
