Maungdaw, Arakan State: Two Arakanese Rohingya political parties submitted their list of candidates to the Maungdaw Election Commissioner on the last date for submission, an Arakanese Rohingya politician in Maungdaw said.
The two political parties are: the National Democratic Party for Development (NDPD) and National Development and Peace Party (NDPP).
The NDPD submitted its candidate’s list for the forthcoming election. Among them are Nurul Haque, an agriculture graduate for the upper house, while the others are Soe Win and Tayub Uddin for the lower house, said a party member.
The NDPP only submitted names of two candidates, Fayas and Omar, said a local politician from Maungdaw.
The NDPP announced that the party will only contest in Maungdaw South, but, did not give details of other constituencies of Maungdaw and Buthidaung, the politician added.
In Maungdaw Township only the United Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has set up an office for its election campaign. Other parties are yet to set up offices for elections in Maungdaw.
The NDPD had registered with the Election Commission and was approved on June 2, with the registration number 32, while NDPP received approval on August 24 with the registration number 42.
The two parties are yet to start their poll campaign.
