Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh: Over 5,000 Yaba tablets were seized by Bangladesh authorities in 12 days on the Bangladesh-Burma border recently, sources said.

Seven peddlers were also arrested with Yaba tablets in their possession.

Acting on a tip off, the Bangladesh authorities seized Yaba tablets and detained peddlers from various places in raids, said a government source.

The Yaba tablets come to Bangladesh from Burma. If smugglers can sell Yaba tablets in Bangladesh, they get more profit.

On other hand, a businessman from Maungdaw town said, “The main heroin smugglers are Burma’s border security force, or Sarapa (Military Intelligence) or army or police officers. They carry heroin or Yaba tablets from upper Burma through their agents from Shan State.

Burma is a major source of Methamphetamine tablets known as Yaba tablets for the Bangladesh market.  Phensidyl, Opium, and marijuana to Bangladesh from India and heroin or Yaba tablets are being sent to Bangladesh from Burma.

Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) destroyed contrabands worth Tk 30.2 million seized from different areas of the districts, at the Comilla 33 Rifle Battalion Headquarters yesterday. The seized drugs include of 10 kg heroine, 6,937 kg hemp, and 23,000 bottles Phensidyl, 16,000 bottles of foreign whisky and 10. 81 million pieces of Yaba tablets, according to Daily Star report.
