Maungdaw, Arakan State: The body of an Arakanese Rohingya was found under the Six-mile Bridge in Maungdaw on May 16, sources said.

The body was identified as that of Mohamed Zuhar (19) from Myoma Kanyaintan (Shidar para) in Maungdaw Town.

Mohamed Zuhar was working as a stone breaker along the Maungdaw –Buthidaung Road on the hillside, said a friend of his.

He went missing from May 11 after going to work on the Maungdaw-Buthidaung Road, the friend said.

His family members filed a case in Maungdaw police station after they could not find him.

However, on May 16, at noon, some workers found his body under the bridge while going to the work site.

One of workers informed the family members and they along with some relatives went to the spot and brought away the body. The authorities were informed and the body buried on May 17 in his native cemetery.

“Villagers believe that he may have been killed by some anti-government activists who recently entered Arakan State from other parts of the state. He may have seen the group, who killed him to stop him informing the authorities,” said a former school teacher from Maungdaw.

Recently, the authorities arrested two Arakanese Rakhines with explosives in Maungdaw in the first week of May and some villages of Maungdaw are being monitored. Authority also seized a boat with explosives near Akyab (Sittwe) in this month.
