Maungdaw, Arakan State:  An election campaign, which was organized by a delegation of Arakanese Rohingyas from Rangoon in Maungdaw at about 20:00 hours yesterday was postponed, said a source from Maungdaw.

The town authorities stopped the meeting for security reasons yesterday night, the source said.

A delegation of 30 mostly Arakanese Rohingya youths arrived yesterday accompanied by U Phone Swe to mobilize the Rohingya community in northern Arakan, said the source.

On the other hand, the authorities arrested some Arakanese Rakhine from block number 4 with two grenades in the first week of May, said an aide from the Township office.

After the arrest and finding of the explosives in Maungdaw, the authorities are going to watch the Arakanese Rakhine villages of Sanpya, Winmahla and Ywachit, the aide said.

Security has been beefed up in Maungdaw and an explosive expert along with a non Arakanese Rakhine policeman searched all the government offices including the general hospital and school.

Moreover, the Union Solidarity Development Association party, (USDA), will open a "Regional Development Office” in Maungdaw tomorrow to mobilize Arakanese Rohingya community in Northern Arakan.

U Aung Zaw Win, a businessman, who is an active leader of the programme, led the Arakanese Rohingya delegation.
