Maungdaw, Arakan State: Two Nasaka - Burma’s border security force, collaborators were killed by unidentified villagers on May 1, in Maungdaw Township, said local villager on condition of anonymity.

They were identified as Arif Ullah (25) from Inn Din village and Sayed Ullah   (30), from Khwa Soun village under Nasaka area No. 8 in Maungdaw Township.

They were notorious and troubled villagers with the help of Nasaka and Sarapa (Military Intelligence). Villagers were angry with them, but were unable to do anything.

Villagers believe that a group of villagers from Barsara village in Maungdaw Township, who fled  the village and were sheltered in Bangladesh because of the two collaborators’ harassment went to Maungdaw Township after crossing Naff River with a small rowboat and killed them at night, said another local trader who declined to be named.

After the incident, the Nasaka authorities stopped all fishing and ferry boats from operating along the Naff River. So, fishermen in Maungdaw Township are idle. Yesterday, only one ferry boat crossed the Naff River and reached Shapuri Dip with passengers.

The Nasaka has closed all border points along the Naff River in search of the killers and to stop them leaving for the neighboring country.

However, local villagers believe that the killers had escaped from Burma to Bangladesh.

There are many Nasaka collaborators in Maungdaw Township, troubling local villagers with the cooperation of Nasaka, Sarapa, police and other concerned authorities. “If all the collaborators are uprooted, our area will be peaceful,” said a local elder.
