Maungdaw, Arakan State: A Burmese Army explosives expert group returned to their base in Buthidaung yesterday, said a local in Maungdaw.

Led by Lieutenant Way Lywin along with 25 member group from Buthidaung Tactical Operation Command (TOC) arrived in Maungdaw on April 30 and stayed for three days and left , said the local.

The group was stationed in the Military Intelligence office in Maungdaw.

They came to Maungdaw to check if bombs or explosives were kept in government offices and other civil society offices, after bombs exploded in Burma proper, said an officer from Maungdaw.

There was an alert in force in Maungdaw by the civil authorities and an eye was kept on the people because bombs exploded in Burma killing and injuring people, said a police officer in Maungdaw.

The expert group checked all the offices in Maungdaw and toured around the town and talked to security officers from Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) and police force on security matters, the officer said.

The TOC confirmed that the area was free of explosive threats. They did not find any strangers entered from neighboring countries, said a TOC aide.
