Buthidaung, Arakan State:  A villager was killed by three brothers on April 5, in Buthidaung Township following a fight between his son and another boy while they were playing in a paddy field, said a close relative of the victim on condition of anonymity.

Abu Tayub (50), son of Sayed Ahmed, hailing from Lawedet  Pyin Chay village of Buthidaung Township was killed by three brothers --- Aman Ullah (25), Maung Tin (23), and  Lala Fuu (20). They are sons of Amir Hussain of the same village.

On April 5 morning, two small boys, son of Abu Tayub and son of Aman Ullah were playing in the paddy field in front of their homes. At one stage, the two boys began quarrelling. Meanwhile, Abu Tayub was going out and saw the boys fighting. He separated them by beating them up somewhat and then proceeded to his destination.  The two small boys returned to their homes crying.

In the evening, Aman Ullah accompanied by his two younger brothers Maung Tin and Lala Fuu went to Abu Tayub’s house and called him out and asked him why he had beaten up his son, said a local trader preferring not to be named.

Abu Tayub said he had beaten up both of them to separate them. He also clarified that he had beaten up not only Aman Ullah’s son but also his son. But, Aman Ullah and his two brothers did not care to listen and beat him up him severely in front of his home and left quickly leaving the victim unconscious.

Relatives and some of the villagers rushed to the spot and the victim was taken to Buthidaung general hospital. The doctor on duty declared him dead, said a local villager.

A murder case was filed against the brothers, but the main culprit Aman Ullah went scot free after bribing the police. The two younger brothers were arrested and sent to Buthidaung jail.

A village elder observed “Villagers or people have become cruel given the dictatorship in the country.”
