Ten Arakanese Rohingyas were arrested by police from Ukhiya-Cox’s Bazaar highway on March 27, while they were getting on a bus, said a source from Kutupalong.
They were arrested while trying to go to Cox’s Bazar from Kutupalong to work.
They were handed over to the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) by Ukhiya police, said a police aide.
The police personnel were led by Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain of Ukhiya police station, sources said.
The arrested Rohingyas entered Bangladesh after crossing the Burma-Bangladesh border recently, the police officer Amir Hossain said.
That day at around 2 pm, they were pushed back to Burma by BDR through the transit point of Balu Khali border outpost.
The arrested were identified as Islam (40), Shukur (20), Abdu Khalek (32), Tayub (30), Zahid Hussain (19), Hafez Ahmed (18), Shariyet Ullah (55), Nazir Ahmed (19), Mohamed Ali (30) and Nurul Boshor (20).
On the other hand, 16 Arakanese Rohingyas were also arrested by police from Sacc Dala border area of Naikonchari on March 23, said a source from Asartali.
Rohingy people flee to neighboring country especially to Bangladesh because of political persecution by the military junta. The persecution in north Arakan against the Rohingya people by the regime is intolerable. They have no other alternative, so they flee to neighboring country from their homeland to avoid persecution.
Bangladesh government has increased push back the arrested Rohingyas to Burma at the beginning of this year. As a result, Rohingyas’ fleeing to Bangladesh is decreased significantly for fear of arrest and sending to jail by Bangladesh authorities , said a local elder from border area on condition of anonymity.
