Teknaf, Bangladesh: A ferry-boat capsized in Naf River yesterday at about 7:30 pm, eight passengers, including children and women are missing, according to our correspondent. The boat was crossing Naf River from Burma to Bangladesh.

The ferry-boat was carrying 13 passengers, including women and children. It suddenly capsized near the bank on the Bangladesh side. While eight are missing, two men, two women, one of them with her child swam to the Bangladesh bank.

The ferry-boat was going to Netaung Para in Bangladesh from Mangala in Burma after crossing the Naf River.

The two women and the child were sent to Teknaf hospital for treatment, said a local villager from Nettaung Para of Bangladesh.

All the passengers are from Bawli Bazaar and Mangala village tracts of Maungdaw Township. They were going to Bangladesh on personal work, said a village elder from Mangala of Maungdaw Township.

The ferry-boat was owned by Abas of Pranpru, Maungdaw Township. Three ferry-boat crew members also swam to Bangladesh.

Search is on for the missing passengers by their relatives but as of writing this report, there is no confirmation of bodies found. According to fishermen from Teknaf, they saw some bodies floating in Naf River.
