Teknaf, Bangladesh: Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) seized smuggled goods worth around 1,800,000 Taka from the Burma border and pushed back 14-Burmese nationals, who were crossing over illegally into Bangladesh, according to BDR sources.
 
BDR seized smuggled goods worth around 1,800,000 Taka being transported from Teknat to Chittagong at the border check posts on Teknaf-Cox’s Bazaar highway yesterday, BDR sources said.
 
A section of BDR personnel from Whykong patrolling the border area of Naff River, seized 241 kilograms of Thailand made fishing nets, also called current net, smuggled from Burma to Bangladesh yesterday morning. The BDR said the estimated cost would be 1,687,000 Taka.
 
Meanwhile, the BDR from Dum Dum Meah check post seized various goods like cosmetics, longgyi and towels from a Cox’s Bazaar bound bus worth 20,470 Taka yesterday afternoon, the sources said. No one was arrested in this connection.
 
Four Rohingya from Maungdaw, Burma were pushed back by the BDR through the Sabrang crossing point of Teknaf yesterday when they crossed the border to reach Bangladesh, according to the 14 BDR Battalion of Teknaf.
 
Eleven other Rohingya comprising four women, four men and three children were pushed back on July 13 by 15 BDR battalion stationed in Naikongchri of Bandarban hill district. They were handed over to the Burmese border security force (Nasaka), said a local from Naikongchri.
