Cox's Bazaar, Bangladesh: Heroin worth Taka 250,000 was seized by police of Cox's Bazar police station from a Rakhine village near a fish market on February 13, at about 6 pm.  One man was arrested, said a police aide.  

 The arrested person has been involved in heroin business for a long time. The village sells liquor for town dwellers. Though, earlier, police and other government officers after conducting operations against this village, arrested a businessman and seized some heroin and liquor, the illegal business did not stop.

 On that day, at about 6 pm, a section of policemen of Cox's Bazaar police station led by police officer Razib Daser went to the fish market and the Rakhine village and launched an operation for heroin and liquor. At one stage the police found 25 grams of heroin in the house of Bikram Barua Panner, son of Dulal Barua, a businessman dealing in local wine, said Hakim Ulla from Cox's Bazar.  

 Sabu Barua, wife of Bikram Barua, and the heroin syndicate leader U Tha May, a Rakhine fled while the operation was on.

 A case was filed in Cox's Bazaar police station against Sabu Barua, Utha May and Bikram Barua.  

 Besides, on February 13, Nasir Uddin (36), and Abul Kalam (35) were arrested by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) at the gate of Dum Dum Mea near BDR check post with narcotics while on their way to Cox's Bazaar from Teknaf. Both of them belong to Nataung Para of Teknaf union, said a man close to BDR.

 In addition, the Narcotics Control Department (NCD) of Chittagong arrested three persons with 800 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from separate places in the city on February 13, according to official sources.

 In Cox's Bazar, most of the liquor, drugs including Yaba tablets and heroine came from Burma through Burma-Bangladesh border, said a trader from Cox's Bazar.
