Chittagong, Bangladesh: Bangladeshi naval warships are on high alert in the Bay of Bengal since November 1, according to a naval officer of the Chittagong Naval Force.
Burma had deployed four ships for exploring oil and gas in Bangladesh's waters on November 1, accompanied by two naval worships, ignoring the warning of the Bangladesh Navy. It is due to this development that Bangladeshi naval warships are on red alert in the Bay of Bengal.
According to sources, Burma's ships began the exploration work 50 nautical miles southeast of the Saint. Martin Island of Bangladesh. A South Korean company has been authorized with the oil and gas exploration contract in the area.
A local politician in Chittagong said, "Bangladesh has good relations with Burma, so Bangladesh tries to solve any problem through dialogue peacefully. However, it seems that Burma wants to try and solve the problem with a supreme hand."
Three Bangladeshi naval ships went to the spot challenging the Burmese ships, but the Burmese Navy responded by alleging that the Bangladeshi Naval ships were intruding.
Bangladesh is planning to ask the South Korean Company not to conduct the exploration work in the disputed area, sources said.
According to sources, "the Bay in Bangladesh's territory has huge natural resources."
The Bay of Bengal has become very important especially after India's discovery of 100 -trillion cubic feet of gas in 2005-06 and Burma's discovery of 7- trillion cubic feet of gas during the same time.
