Maungdaw, Arakan State:  Robbers killed a youth on October 30, while he was fishing in the Naff River on suspicion that he would report the robbers to the concerned authorities, when he was crossing the river by a boat. The robbers were returning after committing a robbery in Arakan, a close relative of the victim said. 

The victim has been identified as Md. Nasim (16), son of Enus Ahmed. He hailed from Mangla Gyi village in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, Burma.

A group of ten robbers from Bangladesh went to Maungdaw Township in Arakan State to steal cattle and rob the farmers on the night of October 30. However, they did not get an opportunity for robbery, so they stole three cattle from Gyikan Pyin (Kawarbill) village of Maungdaw Township.

After stealing the cattle, the robbers were carrying them to the bank of the Naff River in order to cross the Burma-Bangladesh border. But, the robbers were seen by the village sentry and they were chased.  Following which, the robbers fled leaving the cattle and the sentry rescued the cattle.

However, the robbers reached the bank of the Naff River to cross the Burma-Bangladesh border. The robbers met two young boys, who were fishing in the river near the robbers' ferry boat. They killed one of the boys on the spot by striking him on his head with a stick but the other boy escaped. They thought that the boys would inform the concerned authorities about the robbers, so they killed the boy.

The victim's body was brought to the Maungdaw General Hospital for autopsy after which it was buried in his native village yesterday.

The robbers are from Bangladesh from the Rohingya community as well as Bangladeshis. The gang of robbers frequently cross the Bangladesh-Burma border and commit robbery and steal cattle from farmers in Arakan State, a village elder, who did not want to be named said.
