Maungdaw, Arakan State: A traffic policeman from Maungdaw has been selling Yaba tablets in Maungdaw and smuggling it to Bangladesh as well, said an aide of the police in the town.
The traffic policeman has been identified as Sub-corporal U Tin Aye of Maungdaw Town. He has a motorcycle on which he carries the Yaba tablets. He lords it over the Maungdaw-Buthidaung Road and nobody dares to check his motorcycle. He has been smuggling Yaba tablets for a long time and has amassed considerable wealth.
A Yaba tablet smuggler Mey Naing from Guwa Township in Arakan State carries Yaba tablets to Buthidaung from Guwa and Sup-corporal U Tin Aye carries the tablets from Buthidaung on his motorcycle to Maungdaw. The smuggler Mey Naing does not go to Maungdaw Town as part of his business strategy, said a trader in Buthidaung on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, Mey Naing was a steer man of a Dayawaddi ship plying between Buthidaung- Sittwe-Kyaukpru- Kyauktaw -Taungup townships. He retired from his job and so he is familiar about the routes.
Sarapa (Military Intelligence) of Maungdaw Town has been trying to catch him but has not succeeded, according to a source close to Sarapa.
