Mrauk U, Arakan State : The State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) authorities of Mrauk U Township , Arakan State seized about 100 acres of toddy and flood-tide and ebb-tide forests from a minority group named Khami on August 2, according to official sources.
This toddy and flood-tide and ebb-tide forests belonged to a minority group called Khami community which has been living in "Agri Dawma "village under the Mrauk U Township . The forests are located in " San Tara Creek " in Mrauk U Township .
According to a declaration in August 2 by the concerned authority, the owners of these forests are Mrauk U Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) and the government. These are reserve forest areas.
On that day, officials of the forest department and land serving department went to the spot and took measurement and seized the forests.
Since August 2, a police station was set up at Sa Bora creek station of "Agri Dawma" village after concerned authority's had declared reserve forests. The police station is collecting Kyat 2,000 per boat per day from ferry boast which are plying from Agri Dawma village- Padey village- Maruk U town, said a close aide of the police in Mrauk U.
Besides, the police are also collecting Kyat 500 per boat per day which are plying in the San Tawer Creek in Maruk U township.
