Rohingya villagers have to do sentry duty at night in northern Arakan , Burma to watch out for strangers though it is not mentioned who the strangers are. There are no specific directives to villagers who have to stay awake the whole night and shout and ask repeatedly "Hey! Who are you?" whether they see anyone or not. The authorities told villagers that strangers have been entering Arakan, a village elder said.

On July 20, at about 1 pm, four Nasaka personnel including the commander of the Aung Mangala Nasaka camp went to the Maung Nama village and they were approaching the village when the sentries flashed torches on them and asked who they were.

After the Nasaka personnel reached the village sentry post, they wanted to know why the sentries asked them their identity. The Nasaka fined them a big cock each. That day, the sentry post had only four sentries.

After that, the Nasaka personnel went to another sentry post to check.  In the same way, when they approached the village sentry post, the sentries asked them to give their identities. The Nasaka men were furious and tortured the four sentries severely.

The sentries did not complain to the higher authorities for fear of further reprisal said a village elder.

The Rohingyas in Arakn State are racially persecuted and they are unable to take the ill treatment anymore, said a schoolteacher.
