Maungdaw, Arakan State : A villager in Maungdaw Township was sentenced to three months in jail by the Maungdaw court for felling timber for construction a house on July 3, said a friend on condition of anonymity.
The victim was identified as Kamal Hussain, son of Sayed Hussain from Bawli Bazar Alay Ywar (village) in Maungdaw Township , Arakan State .
Kamal Hussain had acquired necessary documents from Nasaka , Burma 's border security force and forest department for permission to cut wood for constructing his house after paying money to the authorities a month ago.
But, another group of Nasaka personnel arrested him in the last week of June because he had some wood in his house. He was brought to the Nasaka camp. Later, he was released after he paid money to the Nasaka, yet they filed a case against him in Maungdaw police station.
According to summons issued by Maungdaw police, Kamal appeared in Maungdaw court on July 3, where he was arrested and sentenced to three months in prison for felling wood without permission from the authorities.
"It is a deliberate act of the Nasaka because, first they gave permission by taking money and then arrested and set him free after taking money again and then filed case against him," a relative of the victim said.
