Teknaf, Bangladesh: Refugees of the Dum Dum Mea makeshift camp are being shifted to new sheds built in Leda as of early morning today. They are being shifted by car and 10 families are being brought at one go, said Alison Majee from the camp.

On July 1 at 9 am about 200 refugee women from Dum Dum Mea makeshift camp in Teknaf union, under the Cox's Bazar district, went on strike and surrounded a car of Medicines Sans Frontieres (MSF-Holland). They stopped patients from going to MSF clinic for treatment as refugees believed that the existence of the MSF clinic near the refugee camp is hampering their transfer to new sheds.

The Union Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Teknaf rushed to the spot and asked members of the MSF to provide an answer to the refugees within three days whether MSF will continue to function, said a refugee from the camp.

A Majee (shed leader) on condition of anonymity said refugees are being misled by some vested interests that they cannot be settled in new sheds because of the MSF. So refugees became furious.

When the MSF car was stopped by the refugees, one staff member of MSF asked the refugees, why they did not want the MSF? They replied that because of the existence of the MSF camp near the refugee camp, refugees could not enter the new sheds. The MSF staff said that MSF has been working for refugees' welfare, and is trying to move refugees to new sheds soon, said a refugee on condition of anonymity.

About 50 families have already been shifted to the new place from Dum Dum Mea camp at the initiative of the Bangladesh government.
