Buthidaung, Arakan state: Nasaka , Burma 's border security force has been photographing residents of Dabruchaung and Sarakkuni villages in Buthidaung Township since June 12, said a schoolteacher on condition of anonymity.
They are taking photographs on the orders of the Commander of Nasaka camp No.21 under Nasaka area No. 9.
If a person is not present while photographs are being taken, his or her guardian has to pay Kyat 5,000 to the authorities. If someone wants to delete names from the family list, the head of the family has to pay Kyat 5,000 per name to the Nasaka.
The Nasaka also takes Kyat 3,000 per family for the photographs. Sarakkuni village has already been photographed and now it is the run of Dabruchaung village.
Annually or bi-annually Nasaka takes photographs of residents to keep tabs on the Rohingya community. It also helps generate a lot of money, said a village elder wanting not to be named.
