Maungdaw, Arakan State: A flag meeting was held between Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Burma's border security force yesterday to boost Burma-Bangladesh border trade.

Burma's border security force, or Nasaka and BDR held a flag meeting in an atmosphere of cordiality in Maungdaw, a border town in Burma. Bilateral issues were discussed, including trespassing across the border, cross-border smuggling, and illegal arrests by border forces of both countries, border trade, among other issues, a source close to Nasaka said.

Major Myint Htoo Soe, the Sector Commander of Nasaka area No. 6 from Maungdaw Town led the Burmese team, while the 10-member Bangladesh delegation was led by Lt. Col. Mohammed Biazid Sarwar of No. 42 BDR Battalion in Teknaf, a border town in Bangladesh and Major Muzahidul Haque, a medical officer and Major Helal Mohammed Khan, the operations commander were also present.

The flag meeting was held for the first time after Lt Col Mohammed Biazid Sarwar took charge of Battalion No 42 in Teknaf, according to sources.
