Buthidaung, Arakan State :  Policemen in Buthidaung Town fined Abdu Salam (40) son of Fayaz from Aley Chaung in Buthidaung Township Kyat 30,000 for holding a religious function without permission from the authorities, said a close relative of the victim.

On April 29, Abdu Salam, took permission from the Village Peace and development Council (VPDC) for holding  a religious function from 9 pm to 11 pm  and invited some religious leaders and  local  people from his village.

A police patrol from Buthidaung Town arrived at the function while the Maulana Kamal (47) of Aley Chaung was beginning his religious preaching. The policemen stopped him and wanted to know who gave the permission. The Maulana Kanmal said that the VPDC gave the permission.

The policemen paid no cognizance to the VPDC permission and arrested Abdu Salam and took him to the Buthidaung police station.

However, on April 30, in the evening, he was released after paying kyat 30,000 to the police.
