Teknaf, Bangladesh : Burmese bamboos are available in Teknaf, a border Town of Bangladesh , since March 20, according to Sayed, a bamboo trader in Teknaf.

The bamboos were transported to Teknaf from Bawli Bazaar in Maungdaw Township in Arakan State by a bamboo trader Md. Idris (50), son of Haji Md. Jalal along with other businessmen hailing from Bawli Bazaar in Maungdaw Township .

Md. Idris together with other businessmen brought 50,000 bamboos from Bawli Bazaar to Teknaf by floating them as rafts along the Naff River . These bamboos were cut from the deep forest of Fokira Bazaar (Khamaung Zeik) village tract of northern Maungdaw.

The businessmen along with Md. Idris bought the bamboos at kyat 10,000 (Bangla Taka 625) for 100 bamboos in Burma and are selling it at Taka 10,000 for 100 bamboos in Bangladesh .

The businessmen have to pay kyat 300,000 to Burma's border security force (Nasaka), custom, police and forest department of Bawli Bazaar for a cluster of 1,000 bamboos as tax. They also have to pay Taka 4,000 to the concerned authorities in Teknaf for 1,000 bamboos, another bamboo trader in Teknaf said.   (One Bangla Taka = 16 Burmese kyats).
