Teknaf, Bangladesh: Seven Burmese nationals were arrested on March 23 by the police in Teknaf when they were preparing in Shapuri Dip for a trip in to Malaysia across the Bay of Bengal, said a local from Shapuri Dip.
The police also seized 400 litres of diesel from them.
According to an official, on being tipped off, a section of policemen went to Shapuri Dip under Teknaf union and arrested seven people. The others fled from the spot.
The raid was ordered by Jossim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf police station and the operation was led by an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Teknaf police station.
The arrested were identified as Rustam Ali (22), Eliayas (25), Abul Kalam (27), Shaber Ahamed (37), Mahamdul Hasan (25), Dil Mohammed (24), and Yasin (23). They are in police custody.
