Buthidaung, Burma : A little boy Sayed Kamal (8) died because of the carelessness of his family members in Maung Nah (Soparan) village tract, Buthidaung Township on March 15.
Kamal drowned while bathing along with other children from his village at a pond near his house, said a relative of the victim.
Kamal went to play with his friends and went off to the pond to bathe. If the family members of Kamal had kept an eye on him the boy would not have died, said a school teacher in the village.
The family member went looking for him at noon when Kamal did not return for lunch. One of Kamal's friends told the family that "we were bathing in the pond when he suddenly disappeared in front of us. We searched for him but we did not find him."
The family members rushed to the pond and saw Kamal's body floating. The boy was buried in a nearby cemetery without post-mortem.
In northern Arakan, most Rohingya families tend to neglect their children as they are busy trying to eke out a livelihood and the authorities always keep them under pressure, said an elder in the village.
