Maungdaw, Arakan State : The commander of Burma ’s security forces, or Nasaka area No. 7 in Maungdaw Township has ordered the Village Peace and Development Council (VPDC) members on March 10 to collect lists of Rohingyas who have gone abroad, said a village elder from the locality.

Following the order, the Village Peace and Development Council, or VPDC Chairman Harun (25) and  Secretary Jaffar Ahmed (25) have begun collecting the list of Rohingyas who have gone abroad in Nasaka area No. 7. The same exercise is underway in other places in Maungdaw Township .

They are collecting the names of the country where they have gone and the date of departure. They have found that about 700 people had left the country in Nasaka area No.7.

A schoolteacher in the village said, "The public does not know why the authorities are collecting the list of Rohingyas who have gone abroad."

Some people said that there is a secret plan behind the exercise.

Some believe that the Rohingyas who have been living abroad will be allowed to enter Burma again as exiled Rohingya groups who are against the present ruling junta.

Others said that after collecting the list, the authorities will pressurize the family members who are in Arakan and extort money.
