Ukhiya Bangladesh : Two Burmese girls were abducted on March 10, at about 10 pm by three local Bangladeshi villagers after they crossed the Bangladesh-Burma border with their families.

Two Rohingya families comprising of 11 members hailing from Nga Kyi Dauk village Tract of Buthidaung Township, Arakan State crossed the Burma-Bangladesh border in a row boat from Zimman Khali under Ukhiya union. After crossing the border, they asked for help to show them the main road---Teknaf-Cox's Bazaar--- from three local Bangladeshis who were working in shrimp projects, said Ali Ullah, one of the family heads who crossed the border.
 
The three local people after promising to them took the Burmese nationals to the main road. Then, the local people took away two young girls from in front of the family members.
 
The abducted girls have been identified as Fatema Khatun(16), daughter of Noor Mohamed and Somuda Begum (14), daughter of Ali Ullah.
 
After the incident, the rest of the members went to a local house and took shelter there and informed the local family. They stayed in that house at night and the next day,they again apprised the local village elders. The local villagers promised to look into the matter.
 
Then they (Burmese nationals) went to Cox's Bazaar where their relatives are staying.
 
The family members have no information about their abducted daughters till the time of writing this report.
 
They crossed the Burma-Bangladesh border as they had no jobs and restriction of movements when prices of essential commodities have been sky rocketing, said Noor Mohamed who is one of the heads of the families.
