Two mothers were arrested in their homes by the special police because their sons travelled to a nearby river to fish. The police entered the homes of Momina Khatun and Somoda Khatun at on Sept. 24 at about 10 pm in Nari Bill (Kyauk Pyin Seik) village in Maungdaw, Arakan state. They demanded to know where their sons were, according to a relative that didn’t want their name used for security concerns. The women told them they were off fishing.
“As a result, the two mothers were arrested and brought to the Hluntin (special police) camp where they were detained,” said the relative. However the next morning they released them after they each paid a 100,000 Kyat.
“It is a deliberate action against the Rohingya community to extort money,” said a Rohingya leader that wished to remain anonymous.
One local elder that preferring not to be named wondered how can they live like this?
“There is no one to save us from the hell!” he said.
