An child from the Nayapara official refugee camp died after being struck by speeding truck near Naitong Para in Bangladesh. The child has been identified as Sayed Hussain, 11; son of Jamal Hussain.
Sayed was travelling to Teknaf with friend Jubair on Sept. 1 at about 3 pm when a truck hit their rickshaw from the backside. Jubair was not hurt, according to his relative Monir. But Hussain was dead on the spot and their driver sustained serious injuries.
Members of Hussain’s family rushed to the scene after Jubair informed them of the accident by mobile phone. The family brought his body back to the refugee camp before the police could arrive, but didn’t file charges against the truck driver. The boy’s mother told the Kaladanpress that she didn’t want to open a case because it’s not going to bring her dead son back.
Sayed Hussain was buried in the refugee camp cemetery on the same evening of the accident, according to Lalu, who is a camp resident.
Many refugees - including children – have been killed after being hit by cars while playing or crossing the road.
