The Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and other high level officials recently visited the Kutupalong refugee camp. The team was visiting the camp in Cox's Bazar to assess the living conditions, health, and educational options for residents.
"The delegates examined the sheds and interviewed the refugees about their living condition… and asked them if they are willing to go back to Burma," said Kala Meah, a resident of the camp.
The foreign minister and her team were welcomed by residents during a tour of the school, clinic and women’s centre. While in the centre, Dipu Moni listened to what the refugees had to say.
“The government is keeping strict vigilance as the Rohingyas would get their right to citizenship in Burma,” Dipu Moni told the reporters after visiting the camp.
But the foreign minister said Bangladesh is a densely populated country and facing enormous problems due to the excessive amount of Rohingya refugees.
“We have already urged Burma (Myanmar) about safe return of Rohingyas so that they could come back to their homeland voluntarily with their rights and dignity.”
"The Rohingya will be sent back to Burma as early as possible” and the “government is working with Burmese government regarding the issue of Rohingya” Dipo Moni said.
“We will go back to Burma if we are recognized as citizens of Burma like other ethnic groups,” said Jalal, former camp management committee chairman.
