Many people from southern Maungdaw are getting sick from various tropical illnesses that are causing fits of diarrhea, fever, coughing and vomiting, according to a village doctor who spoke to the Kaladanpress on condition of anonymity.

“(It’s) mostly children and elders from Khonza Bill (village), Udaung village and others that are getting sick following the effects of the Mahasen Cyclone.”

Although the cyclone didn’t hit Burma it raised the temperature that is causing the illnesses.

The affected persons have been trying to seek medical aid for their illnesses from the hospital in Aley Than Kyaw, but they have been turned away from the mostly Rakhine hospital staff, according to reports from villagers.

This is leaving them no options but to accept the most basic treatment that the doctors based in the village can offer, according to a father of a sick person.
