Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have deported 24 Rohingyas that were arrested near the Burma border on May 19, according to Kamal, a Teknaf based trader.

“They were arrested from different points of the border after a coordinated operation by the BGB.”

According to BGB officials, Teknaf Battalion No. 42 from Shapuri Dip was involved in the bust, and also involved in deporting them from the same area where they were arrested.

The Rohingya ethnic group from Burma faces daily harassment and discrimination at the hands of Arakan state authorities and some Rakhines. Since the sectarian violence that erupted in June and October more people have been seeking refuge in neighboring Bangladesh by crossing the border illegally by boat, or on foot.
