Nasaka personnel beat up a Bangladeshi fisherman inside Bangladesh on March 2, according to Annu Meah, a local fisherman from Ukyiya.

“Mostak Ahamed, 37; son of Zabbar Mulluk, from Palongkhali union went to Naff river on the Bangladesh side  to fish. After he spotted  a group of  10 Nasaka officers near the Burma side of the  river bank at about 9:30 am he ran away in fear.”

According to Mostak’s statement, the officers illegally entered Bangladesh and proceeded to beat him with their guns.

After locals and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) heard him screaming they rushed to the scene, but the Nasaka officers had already  left, according to villagers.

Mostak was brought to a clinic by locals.

On March 2, the BGB and Nasaka held a flag meeting to try and resolve the incident. Nasaka officers explained that they were trying to arrest smugglers who had fled from Burma. The BGB officers said that the victim wasn’t a smuggler, he was a Bangladeshi fisherman.
