Two Rohingyas collecting firewood and fishing in a forest near their village were brutally murdered by a Burman and Rakhine group on February 26, according an elder. Others said the killers were army personnel stationed near the alleged killer's village
Mohamed Sayed, 43; son of Amir Hamza and Mohamed Rashid, 32; son of Lalu Meah from Nurullah Para in Maungdaw south were both killed after being shot. The men who allegedly shot at them were with a group that had been armed by state authorities following the last year’s sectarian violence. During the shooting, four other Rohingyas escaped unscathed, according to one of the relatives.
Township Administration officer U Kyi San and District Administration officer U Aung Myint Soe allegedly provided a group of Burman and Rakhines guns and training to raise a security force.
After the men’s bodies were sent to the Maungdaw hospital for an autopsy. Nasaka and other authorities opened an investigation into the incident.
