Five people were murdered and three were wounded by unknown assailants in northern Maungdaw. Although many of the details are hazy it is known that 4 of the victims were Rohingya children and 1 was a Rakhine adult. The 3 who injured were also Rakhine. The mother of the murdered children has been abducted.
A village official said the alleged assailants visited Deen Mohamed’s house in Khaza Bill (Sapaikone) village. When they discovered that he wasn’t home they slaughtered the children and abducted their mother. Deen Mohamed’s is working for the GE department of the military. The family’s relatives said they didn’t hear any noises from the house when it happened because it is located outside of Khaza Bill village.
On the same night at around 1 pm, villagers heard shots being fired in the new Rakhine village of Nga Khura. When they went to see what had happened Nasaka (border guard force) officers prevented them from entering the village.
It was only the next morning when the Rohingya villagers leant that one Rakhine was killed and another 3 others injured; 2 are in serious condition. After the police sent the corpses to Maungdaw general hospital for autopsies Nasaka personnel from No.5 arbitrarily arrested anyone they could find, according to one local who spoke on condition of anonymity. By the evening one-hundred and seven villagers have been arrested from the Rohingya Loung Don village. These included 26 women and 32 children.
