Six security personnel allegedly tried to rape the female members of a Rohingya family living near their station on Dec.31, according to a member of the village administration.
The personnel claimed they were conducting an official survey on residents in a house in a Rohingya village that is close to a Rakhine village. But when they arrived around midnight they broke down the door.
“The male family members fled from the house. All the females hid in one of the rooms,” according to a family member. “When they started screaming for help neighbors (both Rakhine and Rohingya) rushed to the spot. The security officers went back to the station after they saw the people coming.”
Ironically, the security post was established after the June sectarian violence to provide protection for civilians in Arakan state, according to the member of the village administration.
