A flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) of sector commander- level, was held at Maungdaw in Burma yesterday, according to BGB official.

“The two forces discussed issues such as— trans-border crimes; smuggling especially for drug, to extend relation between two countries, to maintain good relation continuously, release of Bangladesh nationals detained in Burma jails and illegal intrusion and also agreed to maintain peace and order along the borders.”

Sector Commander Col Zillul Haque of Chittagong led 14-member from Bangladesh side including Lt Col Zahid Hassan of Teknaf BGB Battalion No.42, while 17-member from Burma side was led by Nasaka Director Col Aung Naing Oo of Maungdaw Township, said a Nasaka aide from Maungdaw Town preferring not to be named.

The Nasaka personnel handed over 15 Bangladeshi people to BGB after the meeting, who were in the jail for the last 3 months, said a BGB official.

The Bangladeshi were arrested by Nasaka from the Naff River while fishing in the river, three months ago, according to a fisherman from border side living in Teknaf.

The released fishermen were handed over to Teknaf police station and then the police sent them to their relatives after preliminary questions, said a police aide from Teknaf.
The meeting was started at around 10:00 am and completed after over three hours.
