Two-hundred and fifty displaced Rohingya families in Maungdaw Township have received no support  from the government or aid groups even though their properties were burned and looted back in June when sectarian violence erupted in Arakan state.

Part of the problem is that the government refuses to recognize them as internally displaced persons (IDPs), according to one aid worker who didn’t want their name used.

“They are going to starve because they don't have anything to eat  and can't go work outside,” said one Maungdaw politician who also didn’t want their name used.

The families’ movements are restricted and their children are suffering from malnourishment. Even though some high ranking officials and local aid groups have delivered aid to Rakhine IDPs in Maungdaw the Rohingyas are being ignored, according to the politician.
